World’s Top Young Innovators Compete for More than $4 Million in Intel International Science and Engineering Fair

WHAT: The 1,611 finalists in the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair 2010, a program of Society for Science & the Public (SSP), will be in San Jose from May 9-14 to compete for more than $4 million in awards.
 
All research projects will be on display for media and the public on May 13 at the San Jose Convention Center. Finalists will be available for interviews and photos with their projects.
 
The grand awards will be announced at a ceremony on May 14. The top winner in the competition will receive the Gordon E. Moore Award – a $75,000 prize funded by the Intel Foundation. Two additional top winners will receive Intel Foundation Young Scientist Awards of $50,000. Additional prizes, funded by the Intel Foundation with additional support from dozens of other corporate, academic, government and science-focused sponsors, will be awarded to more than 600 other finalists. Winners will be available for interviews immediately after top honors are announced by Intel President and CEO Paul Otellini.
 
The awards ceremony concludes the 2010 season of the world’s largest pre-college science competition. The Intel International Science and Engineering Fair 2010 finalists were selected from 539 affiliated fairs around the world.

Wendy Hawkins, executive director of the Intel Foundation, and Elizabeth Marincola, president of SSP, will also be available for comment.
 
Otellini will present the Gordon E. Moore Award.
