Georgia's George Washington Carver Elementary School Wins Smith Barney's 2006 National Stock Portfolio Contest; 5th Grade Class in Richmond Hill Outperforms the S&P 500 Index

Smith Barney announced today the winner of its 2006National Stock Portfolio Contest is Ms. Mary Matthew's 5th grade classat George Washington Elementary School in Richmond Hills, Georgia.Within the three-month timeframe of the contest, the team's portfolioincreased 12.41 percent, while the S&P 500 Index increased 2.77percent (on a price only basis). They also surpassed the performanceof 101 classes from schools in 20 states that participated in thisyear's program. The contest marks the conclusion of the firm's annualTake Your Parents to School Day(R) Program.

"It was interesting to watch the children grow from zero knowledgeof the stock market to knowing what a stock is, what a diversifiedportfolio is, and understanding that their portfolio outperformed themarket," Ms. Matthew said, "They've grown throughout this experienceand they appreciate the opportunity to participate."

The Take Your Parents to School Day(R) Program included athree-day financial education curriculum taught in participatingmiddle schools across the country from February 14 to February 16,2006. On the third day of the program, each participating class formedteams to create a hypothetical portfolio consisting of five shares ofstock selected from a list provided by the firm. The portfolio wasthen entered in Smith Barney's National Stock Portfolio Contest.

The students monitored the performance of the stocks intheir portfolios and were eager to apply the financial planning andinvestment strategies that they learned during the program."

During the contest, students from all of the participating schoolstracked their portfolio's performance online through the firm's YoungInvestors Network(SM) Web site at www.younginvestorsnetwork.com. Eachstudent in the winning class, based on the portfolio with the largestincrease in value at the end of the contest period, will receive oneshare of Citigroup stock currently valued at $49.37 (indicative as ofMay 12, 2006).
