Apple Watch Battery May Last Only 2.5 Hours On Active Use
(RTTNews) - Apple will unveil its Apple Watch with a battery that may last only 2.5 to 4 hours on very active use, according to a report in 9to5mac.
"People with knowledge of the Apple Watch's development have provided us with the specific performance targets Apple wants to achieve for the Apple Watch battery, but the actual numbers may fall short of those targets," 9to5 writes.
Sources say the Watch should display its clock face for approximately three hours, including watch ticking animations, if nothing else is done with the device
Also, Apple is now targeting 2.5 hours of "heavy" application use, such as processor-intensive gameplay.
9to5mac points out that in passive use where the device is prodded to display, the battery may last several days
"Considered separately, the active use app, clock, and fitness numbers sound very low, but the reality is that people will passively wear the Apple Watch for most of the day, actively interacting with it only for short periods of time. That's why the Watch will be able to last the average user roughly a day on a single charge," 9to5mac wrote.
Apple has publicly downplayed expectations for its battery, with CEO Tim Cook recently saying the Watch should be charged nightly.
"We think you're going to end up charging it daily," he said during a Wall Street Journal event in October. "Overnight - that's what we think."
The Apple Watch was expected to be released last year, but the company is now likely to unveil the device early in 2015.
