The Iams Company Launches Friends for Life Fund to Offer Relief to Thousands of Pets Affected by Katrina; 100 percent of Donations Go To Relief

The thousands of dogs and cats left homeless in the wakeof Hurricane Katrina are getting additional relief thanks to The IamsCompany. While responding to the needs of humans has been a toppriority of government agencies and volunteers, many people worldwidehave also expressed interest in helping pets orphaned by Katrina. Inresponse, Iams has established the Iams Friends for Life Fund throughthe Greater Cincinnati Foundation (GCF) to give pet lovers worldwidethe opportunity to assist with relief efforts for our four-footedfamily members.

The Iams Friends for Life Fund will support qualified non-profitorganizations caring for pets separated from their families orcaretakers by the disaster. In addition, The Iams Company will matchcontributions collected via the Iams Friends for Life Fund with up toan additional $25,000 worth of product on top of the estimated$200,000 worth of Iams(R) and Eukanuba(R) Dog and Cat Foods alreadydonated. GCF will be accepting donations intended for disaster reliefuntil November 30, 2005. (Note: In the U.S. these donations are taxdeductible; outside the U.S., please check with your local taxauthority.)

"Our deepest, heart-felt sympathies go out to all affected byHurricane Katrina," said Kelly Vanasse, The Iams Company. "We'veestablished the Iams Friends for Life Fund as a way for our employeesand pet passionate people worldwide to contribute to the cause. Everypenny of every donation through the end of November will go directlyto help the pets in need."

As a means of kicking off the Iams Friends for Life Fund,Oscar-winning actress Diane Keaton will be featured in a PublicService Announcement (PSA) to tell pet lovers how and where donationscan be made to support the rescue, recovery, and placement efforts ofthe pets affected by Hurricane Katrina. Created pro bono by Saatchi &Saatchi NY, the PSA is scheduled to launch nationally later this week.This is a first of its kind celebrity/corporate partnership to supportcompanion animal relief efforts that guarantees 100 percent of alldonations will go directly to organizations in and out of the areasthat are helping pets affected by Katrina. In addition, The IamsCompany has made an initial shipment of 160,000 pounds of Iams andEukanuba Dog and Cat foods, enough to fill four truckloads.

Mike Arms, President of the Helen Woodward Animal Center and aleader in animal welfare, was instrumental in bringing all of theparties together. "I'm happy that Diane Keaton, The Iams Company,Saatchi & Saatchi, and all of us are doing this together to raiseawareness and funds for those animals who need the help sodesperately," says Arms. "The fact that 100 percent of the funds willgo to the animals and their care is especially meaningful."
