Sony Unveils Playstation TV
(RTTNews) - At the E3 2014 convention, Sony announced that it is brining the PlayStation Vita TV to the U.S. and Europe this fall under the name PlayStation TV. The hybrid console and set-top box, which launched in Asia in 2013, will retail for $99 for the basic package.
The device features a quad-core processor, 1GB of internal memory and supported output of 720p/1080i, while supporting Bluetooth 2.1, 802.11n Wi-Fi and Ethernet.
The unit can play Vita games, stream PlayStation Now games and act as a remote hub for the PS4 in another room. A similar device from Amazon - the Amazon Fire TV - comes with the same price tag.
"I think it's a smart move by Sony to try to extend the tentacles of their ecosystem, making devices and services that can touch people at different points throughout the day. And that's an approach that we've seen in different types of devices in the market," Brian Blau an analyst at Gartner told the Guardian.
The Sony PlayStation TV bundle ($139) comes with a Dual Shock 3 controller, an 8GB memory card and a copy of the Lego Movie Vita game.
