Samsung Teasers Show New Galaxy Phone
(RTTNews) - Latest teasers released by Samsung and wireless carrier T-Mobile confirm that the South Korean giant's new flagship smartphone Galaxy 6 will sport a curved-edge display with an all-metal body.
Samsung posted a 45-second video on the YouTube and a profile photo on Instagram, which confirms the much-speculated specifications for the Galaxy S6.
The photo on the Instagram displays a Galaxy S6 on a metallic background theme, while an image of the flagship device in the video shows curved-edge displays on the both sides.
The narrator in the video gave few hints about the new Samsung Galaxy 6. "Tomorrow, metals will flow. Beauty will be powerful. Borders will disappear. Reflections will be free. Colors will live. The future will be the present," the narrator says in the video. Galaxy S-series fanatics can expect at least one curved-edge display, metal body, anti-reflective screens and a new design.
Meanwhile, a promo image of Galaxy S6 posted on the T-Mobile's US website confirms that the flagship device will have curved display. The sign-up page displays an image of Galaxy S6 with the tag line "Six Appeal."
Samsung had launched the Galaxy Note Edge last year with similar curved edge display on one side.
Earlier reports had suggested that Samsung might unveil two smartphones, as the smartphone with 'edge display' likely to be a separate phone 'Galaxy S6 Edge' that will be launched alongside Galaxy S6.
The Galaxy S6 will also run on the South Korean giant's in-house Exynos processor, having reportedly ditched Qualcomm's latest Snapdragon 810 processor chip after it overheated during testing.
Samsung Galaxy S5 did not take-off as expected after users complained about its cheap plastic body and similar looks with its predecessor, Galaxy S4. The success of the latest Galaxy flagship will be very critical for the South Korean electronic giant's future after the company reported weak results for the December quarter, while its arch rival Apple Inc. (AAPL) reported a stupendous record breaking profit driven by blockbuster sales of big-screen iPhones during the holiday season. The holiday sales helped tech giant Apple to tie with Samsung to become the world's largest smartphone vendor, for the first time since the fourth quarter of 2011.
Both Apple and Samsung sold 74.5 million smartphones during the December quarter, according to research firm Strategy Analytics. Samsung and Apple each took about 20 percent of the market share, with Apple gaining 2 percent and Samsung shedding 10 percent, hurt largely by low-cost variants of Android devices from Chinese and Indian manufacturers.
