David Akers and Shayne Graham Score Points During the Holidays - New Children's Pepto Donates to Kicks For Kids
PHILADELPHIA, Jan. 3 /PRNewswire/ -- Today, at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, during the season of giving, the Children's Pepto "Kick In For Kids" program made a check presentation of $30,000 to Kicks For Kids to benefit children facing serious challenges in their lives. Philadelphia Eagles kicker, David Akers established the Kicks For Kids organization in 2001, out of a desire to give back to the community and his wish to help young people and families in need.
The money was raised during a two-month fund-raising effort by Children's Pepto, called "Kick In For Kids." From Halloween through New Year's Day, Children's Pepto and the "Kick In For Kids" program donated money to Akers' charity, for every point that Akers scored. While Akers was out due to an injury during that time, Cincinnati Bengals kicker Shayne Graham stood in for Akers, and Children's Pepto donated money for every point that Graham scored until Akers was back in the game.
Meanwhile, the Kicks For Kids message of giving back to the community was in the media in many cities. During Halloween, Akers enrolled the help of fellow professional place kickers, Phil Dawson of the Cleveland Browns, Shayne Graham of the Cincinnati Bengals and Green Bay Packer kicker, Ryan Longwell, as all 4 kickers spent time with children at their local hospitals.
During Thanksgiving, over 150 deserving families received complete Thanksgiving dinners at Akers' annual Turkey Run in Philadelphia. The involvement and donations of Children's Pepto helped this number reach an all- time high. And, as Akers' guests, one deserving family attended the December 5th Philadelphia Eagles/Seattle Seahawks game.
And in late December, Akers and Children's Pepto hosted the Annual Christmas Celebration at New Jersey's Funplex Amusement Center. It was a special celebration, complete with presents and many smiling faces.
"This year, as every year, we continue to reaffirm our deep commitment to serving families in need, as we give back to the community" said David Akers. "I want to personally thank all the people on the Children's Pepto 'Kick In For Kids' team for their contributions. They have helped make a difference."
It's a familiar theme: a good cause, NFL football players, and Pepto. They just seem to work well together. In October 2004, money was donated to the National Breast Cancer Foundation based on the performance of Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Chad Johnson and the sales of Cherry Pepto-Bismol liquid. Once again, the partnership of Pepto and Pro-Football Players help to benefit charitable causes for people across America.
