Apple Watch Price Revealed, In Stores On April 24
(RTTNews) - Apple Inc. (AAPL) Monday revealed further details and features of its largely anticipated smartwatch, Apple Watch, including price.
The price for least expensive Apple Watch Sport starts at $349, while the luxurious gold edition price starts at $10,000. Apple Watch is available for pre-order on April 10 and will start shipping on April 24 to customers in nine countries, including Australia, Canada, China, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Japan, the UK and the US.
"Apple Watch begins a new chapter in the way we relate to technology and we think our customers are going to love it," said Tim Cook, Apple's CEO.
Apple Watch is the first new product category that the Cupertino, California-based tech giant has launched since unveiling the iPad in 2010. It also marks the first new product category that Apple has launched under CEO Cook.
At the event in San Francisco, Apple showcased the features of the Watch, including how it could take phone calls, get notifications, pay bills at supermarkets, and open hotel rooms or garage doors. The company claims the watch will typically last a whole day with 18 hours of battery life.
The Apple Watch comes in three collections, Apple Watch Sport, Apple Watch in stainless steel and luxury Apple Watch Edition in 18 carat gold, and also available in two sizes -- 38mm or 42mm. The pricing for Sport model starts at $349 and $399, while the mid-range model is priced at $549 to $1,099 and the luxury edition is priced at an exorbitant $10,000.
The Apple Watch requires to be paired with an iPhone 5 or above for use.
Apple also unveiled a new 12-inch MacBook, which Apple boasts as its thinnest ever laptop, with the device weighing only 2 pounds and 13.1 millimeters thin. Shipping of the new MacBook will begin on April 10 with pricing starting at $1,299 for model with 1.1 GHz dual-core Intel Core M processor with 2.4 GHz speed, 8GB of memory, 256GB of flash storage and Intel HD Graphics 5300.
Apple also announced a new deal with HBO bringing streaming video service HBO Now to Apple TV when the service premieres next month. HBO Now will cost $14.99 a month.
AAPL is currently trading at $127.27, up $0.67 or 0.53%, on the Nasdaq.
