Apple Has Eliminated Pay Gaps For Women, Minorities
(RTTNews) - Apple Inc. (AAPL) has recorded progress in hiring more women as well as underrepresented minorities and has also achieved pay equity in the U.S., according to its latest "inclusion and diversity" report.
According to the tech giant, the percentage of its female new hires has risen to 37 percent so far this year from 31 percent in 2014, while the figure for U.S. underrepresented minorities or URMs has increased to 27 percent of new hires this year from 21 percent in 2014. Apple noted that 54 percent of its new hires in the U.S. are minorities.
According to Apple, underrepresented minorities are groups whose representation in tech has been historically low, such as Black, Hispanic, Native American, Native Hawaiian, and Other Pacific Islander.
Apple's report also shows that as of June, the company is 68 percent male and 32 percent female. This represents a move of one percentage point in favor of women, compared to last year.
In the U.S., Apple was 56 percent white, 19 percent Asian, 12 percent Hispanic, 9 percent black, and 2 percent multiracial, while another 1 percent represented an "other" category.
Regarding equity pay, Apple said it has looked at the total compensation for U.S. employees and closed the gaps it found. The company added that it is currently analyzing the salaries, bonuses, and annual stock grants for all its employees worldwide.
According to the company, it has achieved pay equity in the U.S. for similar roles and performance.
"Women earn one dollar for every dollar male employees earn. And underrepresented minorities earn one dollar for every dollar white employees earn," Apple said.
The company added that it is committed to greater inclusion and diversity, and wants Apple to be a "reflection of the world around us".
