Poland Inflation Eases Unexpectedly In May

(RTTNews) - Poland's consumer price inflation slowed unexpectedly in May, official data revealed Friday.

Inflation eased to 0.2 percent in May from 0.3 percent in April, the Central Statistical Office said. Economists had forecast inflation to accelerate to 0.5 percent.

Food and non-alcoholic beverages prices were down 0.8 percent annually and clothing and footwear prices decreased 4.6 percent. Transport charges edged down 0.1 percent.

On a monthly basis, consumer prices fell 0.1 percent, when the index was expected to remain flat in May.

Data from the central bank showed that the current account deficit widened to EUR 1.028 billion in April from EUR 0.517 billion in March. The shortfall was much larger than a EUR 0.53 billion forecast by economists.
