Georgia Q2 GDP Growth 1.3%

(RTTNews) - Georgia's economy grew in the second quarter, the National Statistics Office said on Wednesday, citing preliminary estimations based on monthly data.

Gross domestic product increased 1.3 percent in the second quarter, the agency said in a monthly report. The former Soviet Republic's economy had expanded 2.4 percent year-on-year in the first quarter, after registering 2.8 percent growth in the final three months of 2012.

The report also said GDP shrunk 0.8 percent year-on-year in the month of June, after a modest 0.2 percent growth in May. In April, GDP grew a robust 4.6 percent.

For the first half of the year, the country's economic growth was 1.8 percent.

Estimations for the sectors, where preliminary monthly data do not exist, are based on the data for previous periods, the agency said. Hence, the actual quarterly real GDP figures may significantly vary from monthly estimates, it added.
