    NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 20, 2005--

New guide from Xerox, Parsons Design helps designers and printers develop more effective jobs for digital printing

Xerox Corporation (NYSE:XRX) will play a key role today at Adobe Systems' Partners in Publishing Conference, helping show creative professionals how digital printing can help them design and deliver more effective, high-quality, full-color marketing and sales materials.
The conference, at the Marriott Marquis Hotel in New York, is expected to draw about 500 creative services, prepress, publishing, and print production executives. The event is designed to teach people how to increase the productivity and efficiency of their publishing workflow including digital print operations, how to create and deliver personalized marketing campaigns, and how to make the most of the industry's newest digital technologies.
"Today more than ever, digital printing is helping to blend creativity and efficiency," said Valerie Blauvelt, vice president of marketing, Xerox Production Systems Group and a keynote speaker at the conference. "It's an effective way of allowing designers and print producers to create campaigns with more relevance, impact and a greater return on investment for their clients."
Xerox will showcase creative digital printing applications such as full-color magazines printed on the Xerox iGen3(R) Digital Production Press as well as color proofing, design and business resource tools, and innovative supplies in the Partner Expo area.
In addition, Xerox is announcing the availability of The Art of Digital Printing - The Parsons Guide to Getting It Right, a book that illustrates how designers, art directors and print professionals can more effectively produce jobs for digital printing. It is part of Xerox's ProfitAccelerator(TM) digital business resources portfolio - a comprehensive set of tools that helps customers develop and grow their digital printing business.
The 70-page book is written and designed by students and faculty at Parsons School of Design in New York City in collaboration with Xerox, and it is produced on a Xerox iGen3. The guide highlights design projects created by Parsons students.
"The book is a great piece of work. It offers straightforward, practical advice using a creative set of jobs developed by the students," said Steve Arnold, direct of print production, R & R Partners, a marketing communications firm with headquarters in Las Vegas and a Xerox customer. Arnold has used and handed out advance copies of the guide to educate his coworkers at an R & R Partners creative seminar.
The first half of the book focuses on the artistic side of digital printing and includes notes from the Parsons students on how they produced their projects. The second half of the book describes the technical side of digital printing and offers tips on a variety of issues, including maintaining consistent color and checking image resolution.
As a Xerox iGen3 print provider, commercial printer Toppan Printing Company America, Inc. has seen the benefits of the guide first hand.
"We have clients using the book and have already seen a positive change in the way files are prepared and delivered to us," said Gavin Jordan-Smith, director, Digital Communications, Toppan Printing, who also received advance copies. "The savings and increase in client satisfaction have been immediate." Toppan Printing Company America is a wholly owned subsidiary of Toppan Printing Co. Ltd., the second largest printing company in the world.
"With Adobe Creative Suite we're delivering a platform for the future of design and publishing and by working with industry innovators like Xerox, Adobe is ensuring our customers can deliver stand-out work," said Mark Hilton, senior director of Creative Professional Products at Adobe. "Digital printing gives creative professionals a new canvas to produce projects, and it's more important than ever they work closely with printers to take full advantage of the benefits."
The guide is initially available upon request from Xerox Graphic Arts Premier Partners who use iGen3 presses in the metro New York area and will then be released nationwide throughout the year. In the Xerox exhibit in the Partner Expo will be a sample copy of the book and a list of participating Premier Partners. The Premier Partners Program is a Xerox-sponsored global community of more than 340 leading digital print providers.
