So what are they? A crossover looks similar to a sport utilityvehicle. But while SUVs have traditionally been placed on truckplatforms, a crossover is based on a car body.

In fact, some of today's most popular cars -- which we all thinkare SUVs -- aren't. The Toyota RAV 4, the Chevy Equinox and Honda'sCRV all fit into the crossover category. Their "unibody" frame, whichis similar to that of a sedan, makes the cars in this class easier todrive and lighter -- offering enhanced fuel economy.

At the New York International Auto Show, more vehicles wereintroduced which fit the crossover criteria. Among them are the BuickEnclave and Saturn Outlook, both of which will arrive in showroomsthis fall.
