Toyota U.S. Sales In June Up 3.3% - Update

(RTTNews) - Japanese automaker Toyota Motor Corp (TM), said Tuesday its U.S. sales in June climbed a modest 3.3 percent, led mainly by demand for cars such as Corolla and Camry, partly offset by weak demand for pickup trucks Tacoma and Tundra as well as fewer number of selling days.

"Sales in the first half of 2014 indicate a steadily recovering industry, and we expect this pace to increase as we move into the second part of the year," said Bill Fay, Toyota division group vice president and general manager.

Toyota's U.S. sales in June rose to 201,714 units from 195,235 units last year. The month had 24 selling days against 26 days last year.

On a daily selling rate basis, which adjusts for the difference in the number of selling days, sales in June were up 11.9 percent.

At its namesake Toyota division, sales increased 2.5 percent from a year ago to 178,196 units, and sales at Lexus segment jumped 10 percent to 23,518 units.

Car sales at Toyota division were up about 5 percent to 101,797 units, due mainly to sales of Corolla and Camry, while Prius sales slackened. Lexus car division sales gained 13.2 percent to 13,056 units, on demand for IS sedan.

Truck sales at Toyota division edged down 0.6 percent to 76,399 units, due to weak sales for pickup trucks Tacoma and Tundra. Lexus truck sales increased 6.5 percent to 10,462 units, on sales of crossover SUV Lexus GX.

Toyota stock is trading at $122.18, up $2.52 or 2.11%, on a volume of 337k shares on the NYSE.
