The Washington Post Wins Six Pulitzer Prizes
The Washington Post has won six Pulitzer Prizes, it was announced today
by the Pulitzer Prize Board. One of the world’s
most prestigious journalism awards, the coveted prize was given to six
of the seven Post finalists. The winners include:
- Public Service: Walter Reed and Beyond by Dana Priest,
Anne Hull and photographer Michel du Cille (February 19 - December
2, 2007)
Series exposes mistreatment of wounded veterans at Walter Reed
Hospital, evoking a national outcry and producing reforms by federal
officials.
- Feature Writing: Pearls Before Breakfast by Gene
Weingarten (April 8, 2007)
This article about stopping to appreciate music spread quickly
across the Internet and was a top hit on washingtonpost.com long
after being published in Washington Post Magazine.
- National Reporting: Cheney Series by Barton Gellman and
Jo Becker (June 24 - 27, 2007)
This series of articles delves into the role of one of the most
influential vice presidents in American history.
- Local Reporting, Breaking News: The Virginia Tech
Shootings by the Metropolitan Staff of The Washington Post (April
17-19, 2007)
The tragedy that gripped the nation called on reporters to
investigate how the tragedy occurred and the extent of the loss.
- International Affairs: The Private Armies of Iraq by
Steve Fainaru (April 15 - December 24, 2007)
