Tesla Roadster To Get 400-Mile Range Upgrade
(RTTNews) - Elon Musk, the CEO of electric car maker Tesla Motors Inc (TSLA), on Christmas announced an upcoming upgrade for Tesla Roadster that will improve its mile-range to "almost" 400 miles.
"Roadster upgrade will enable non-stop travel from LS to SF -- almost 400 mile range. Details tmrw. Merry Christmas!," read the Tweet from Elon Musk late yesterday.
Following the upgrade, Roadster, currently offering around 245 mile per charge, is expected to travel from Los Angeles to San Francisco on a single charge. Tesla Roadster, whose production was stopped in January 2012, is the first ever mass produced electric sports car. Tesla has sold about 2,200 units of Roadster.
Tesla, however, did not provide further details about the costs and availability of the upgrade.
A second tweet from Musk yesterday also indicated to the owners of Tesla Model S that they will not be getting a similar upgrade soon. "Should mention that a battery pack upgrade is not coming soon for the Model S, but it obviously will happen long-term," tweeted Musk.
TSLA is trading at $225.46, up $3.20 or 1.44%, on a volume of 1 million shares on the Nasdaq.
