Telefonica Mulls Strategy Options For O2UK, Incl. IPO
(RTTNews) - Spanish telecom group Telefonica SA (TDE.L, TEF) Monday said it is considering various strategic options for its UK subsidiary O2 UK. The company was responding to media reports regarding O2 UK.
In its statement, the company said the strategic options include, among others, a potential Initial Public Offering. Preparatory work in connection with such strategic options has been initiated.
Earlier, Bloomberg reported, citing Telefonica Chairman Jose Maria Alvarez-Pallete that the company could hold an IPO of its British wireless unit this year if market conditions are favorable as the firm seeks funds to pay off debt.
In Spain, Telefonica shares were trading at 9.27 euros, up 1.01 percent.
