TAFE Queensland Renews Unisys Outsourcing Relationship With Two-Year E
Business Editors/High-Tech Editors
BRISBANE, Australia--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 16, 2005--The Australian State of Queensland's public provider of Technical and Further Education (TAFE) has exercised its option to extend, for a further two years, its existing three-year contract with Unisys (NYSE:UIS) for the provision of information technology services. The contract renewal follows a rigorous internal assessment by TAFE of its business requirements and the services provided by Unisys to the 15 TAFE Institutes and 85 campuses throughout the State.
TAFE Queensland provides flexible and responsive training to meet the vocational and business needs of individuals, employers and the community.
"On our outsourced contracts we set very tough metrics and make stringent assessments to ensure they are met," said Ross Hepworth, general manager TAFE Queensland Innovation and Development Services. "Every measurement we set was met by Unisys."
Under the contract, the following will be provided:
-- | Helpdesk services, which are resourced to handle up to 8,000 calls per month |
-- | Desktop support, for the 12,000 desktop computers used by Queensland TAFE |
-- | Management of 240 servers |
-- | Network support |
-- | Asset management |
-- | Project services and programme management |
"TAFE institutes are in the business of providing cost-effective, vocational education and training across the state, which our IT infrastructure outsourcing services and specialist solutions enable them to do," said Mike Ettling, managing director, Unisys Australia-New Zealand. "This contract extension demonstrates that our objective of reducing IT complexity and costs for TAFE Queensland is producing measurable benefits. This successful contract extension follows a similar extension with the New South Wales Department of Education and Training, where we host its Internet access and e-mail network, including to that State's own TAFE institutes."
TAFE Queensland Innovation and Development Services provides IT services to 250,000 students per year and 7,000 TAFE staff, focusing on performing to rigorous standards set by Queensland's Department of Employment and Training.
The delivery of services will provide continued employment for Queenslanders, and will incorporate sub-contractor arrangements with a number of smaller Queensland-based IT providers.
