    EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 1, 2005--

-- New version offers the content management industry's first
in-context metadata engine; enhanced email management; and new
digital asset management features -- multi-channel image and
video output, and dynamic video drill-down

Stellent, Inc. (Nasdaq:STEL), a global provider of content management solutions, announced today at Crescendo(TM) 2005, its second annual global user conference, the release of Stellent(R) Universal Content Management 7.5. This new version is designed to further strengthen Stellent's primary value proposition of generating rapid customer success through fast implementations and quick, broad user adoption.
Version 7.5's new features and functionality are customer-driven enhancements that speed deployments and increase ease-of-use. The new capabilities are further bolstered by Stellent's Universal Content Management architecture, which provides one content management platform that can be applied across multiple applications -- including compliance and records management, multi-site Web content management, partner and customer extranets, infrastructure consolidation, and financial processes.
"The new features and enhancements we offer in Stellent Universal Content Management 7.5 further extend our enterprise content management capabilities, making it even easier for a diverse range of users to utilize and benefit from multiple Stellent-based applications," said Dan Ryan, executive vice president of marketing and business development for Stellent. "It is important to note that all of the new functionality in version 7.5 is supported by a rich, robust and seamless enterprise content management foundation, which furthers the product's ease-of-use and flexibility, and lowers the total cost of ownership."

The Enterprise Content Management Industry's First In-Context Metadata Engine

Stellent's new metadata management model furthers Universal Content Management's ease-of-use -- and therefore rapid user adoption -- by allowing users to view metadata fields in context. In other words, users only see metadata applicable to them at a certain point in time. For example, rather than only controlling metadata fields based on document type, Stellent now offers the ability to control metadata based on user roles, document status and a variety of other criteria. Because the Stellent system is based on one content management platform, customers can quickly and seamlessly apply this metadata model across multiple applications within their organizations.
"By providing customers with an efficient and automated method for personalizing metadata fields, content management vendors can lessen the painful administrative burden this process typically requires," said Andrew Warzecha, senior vice president and director for META Group. "Consequently, content management suites that offer an integrated architecture that supports multiple deployments can help customers roll out complex metadata and multiple applications, while retaining ease-of-deployment for the IT team and ease-of-use for individuals."
"IDC's surveys during the past two years have consistently shown that the top reason for purchasing content management or retrieval software was to unify access to information," said Susan Feldman, vice president for content technologies at IDC. "We also see increasing efforts to give users the information they need within the context of their jobs or interests. Stellent's in-context metadata is a good example of this drive toward precision of results and increased control of all types of content. It enables personalized forms to be generated in complex, multi-application metadata environments. This personalization promotes accurate tagging of content and allows end users to find the information they need -- thereby encouraging broader user adoption."

    Enhanced Email Management Capabilities

With version 7.5, Stellent folders automatically appear on the email client without client software, and Stellent users can now drag and drop email messages and attachments directly from their email system into Stellent Content Server. This functionality makes it easier for users to contribute emails into the Stellent system, manage email body content and attachments, and seamlessly declare the information as records. It also promotes rapid deployment and a lower total cost of ownership by eliminating the need for a client software install.
"Stellent's email management enhancements demonstrate the strength of the Stellent Content Server, and are consistent with the company's historical approach of not requiring customers to rely on client software to perform critical content management functions," said Geoffrey Bock, senior vice president for Patricia Seybold Group. "As a result, organizations can ensure that all of their users have email management functionality, which, in turn, enables vital business initiatives such as compliance and records management applications."

Digital Asset Management: Multi-Channel Image and Video Output, and Dynamic Video Drill-Down

Version 7.5's new digital asset management (DAM) capabilities make it easier for organizations to utilize images and videos. For example, version 7.5 automatically converts image files from a single source into a variety of formats, such as GIF and TIF files. This process optimizes images for various types of consumption, such as PowerPoint presentations and Web sites, while managing all of the renditions as a single object. Universal Content Management 7.5 also offers similar conversion capabilities for video files. For instance, the system automatically converts large audio visual interleaved (AVI) files into smaller, lower-resolution MPEG files for use on Web sites. Additionally, Stellent now includes the ability to drill down into particular scenes in a video using storyboards.
"Digital asset management deployments have been undertaken primarily by companies with a heavy rich media or audio/video focus, such as advertising agencies and film studios, but the real opportunity for DAM lies in today's corporate enterprise," said Lou Latham, research analyst for Gartner, Inc. "To be widely accepted in these environments, DAM solutions need to empower individual users to easily submit image and video files, and automatically transform and present them in multiple formats. Equally important to successful adoption of DAM technology is the ability of end users to then easily find and use those images and videos in the appropriate format. With these capabilities, today's enterprise will finally be able to realize the true value of digital asset management, in a broader context."

    New Desktop Integration Interface

In version 7.5, Stellent Desktop Integration provides a common interface for users desiring richer functionality than that exposed in Web interfaces, WebDAV or email server integrations. This functionality includes access to Stellent's in-context metadata engine and offline capabilities.

Additional Key 7.5 Features and Benefits

Stellent Universal Content Management 7.5 offers the following additional key features and core services enhancements:

-- Collaboration project dashboards -- make it easier for collaborative teams to identify specific project content relevant to them.

-- Integrated imaging and business process management capabilities -- include a common user interface and common application programming interface (API) between Stellent Content Server and Stellent Image Server (a former Optika product), enabling fast integrations between the two products.

-- Business process management certifications -- PeopleSoft 8.8/8.10 and SAP certifications assure PeopleSoft and SAP users that Stellent delivers a ready-to-use solution.

-- Configuration migration utility -- allows users to quickly replicate content management installations or components to another Stellent Content Server.

-- "My View" search results -- enable users to personalize search results by category.

-- Digital signature -- requires users to re-enter a user name and password in order to apply a digital signature rather than simply clicking an "approve" button, which satisfies stricter security requirements.

-- Fast Search & Transfer(TM) integration -- provides Stellent customers with an alternative real-time search and retrieval platform designed to give instant access to information that is relevant, accurate, timely and secure.
