SouthernLINC Wireless Celebrates National Wireless Safety Week

SouthernLINC Wireless, a Southern Company (NYSE: SO), announced today that it plans to observe the cellular industry’s annual National Wireless Safety Week, which begins Monday, June 2. SouthernLINC Wireless will commemorate the week by sharing safety tips with its customers and employees throughout the Southeast. "Wireless devices have become a permanent accessory for nearly 260 million Americans, giving us the ability to stay in touch with the people we care about and respond quickly to family, business and emergency situations,” said Bob Dawson, president and chief executive officer of SouthernLINC Wireless. "It is important for our customers to become familiar with the services and functions on their SouthernLINC Wireless phones, because they can become critical safety tools.” CTIA—The Wireless Association® first launched National Wireless Safety Week in 1990 as a way to highlight the significant role wireless technology plays in enhancing public and personal safety. SouthernLINC Wireless believes one of the best ways to practice cellular safety simply involves taking the time to understand your wireless device. CTIA outlines some helpful tips for learning about wireless phones and becoming familiar with its functions, so that you can always be prepared: Input all emergency numbers into your wireless device, including numbers of your family members, friends, medical professionals and any other emergency contacts. Learn how to text message or use other forms of cellular communications, such as push-to-talk. When a disaster strikes, the communications networks might be challenged and text messages or off-network push-to-talk can be additional communications options. Make use of your phone’s GPS features. GPS functions will help map destinations, locate emergency services and pinpoint locations; all contribute to increased safety. Buying manufacturer- or carrier-recommended products and accessories will ensure that items such as batteries and chargers are compatible and not a safety hazard. You should also check your batteries to ensure they are in good working order and take either a standard charger or a car charger with you. It is advisable to have a back-up power source in case you need it. Make it a priority to protect your personal information by using locks and passwords on your device.
