ShakeOut Media Messaging, Tools, and Events to Inspire Participation and Promote Earthquake Preparedness

LOS ANGELES, Oct 8, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- On International ShakeOut Day this October 18 (Thursday), millions will participate in Great ShakeOut Earthquake Drills across the country and worldwide. In 2017, more than 58 million participated. At a minimum, ShakeOut is a one-minute earthquake drill where participants practice "Drop, Cover, and Hold On" and other aspects of their emergency plans.

With such local and global visibility, ShakeOut is a fantastic opportunity to demonstrate your media organization's community leadership, while motivating your audience to get prepared.

PARTICIPATE

Be Listed as Broadcasting the ShakeOut Drill Narration

Many ShakeOut participants will tune to local radio and TV stations at drill time (10:18 AM) for the "ShakeOut Drill Broadcast." You can also host the drill broadcast on your website and post on social media too. One-minute recordings of this drill contain simple instructions, available with and without earthquake sound effects:

Conduct and Register Your Own ShakeOut Drill

All media organizations are also encouraged to hold their own drills and be counted along with the millions of other participants.

  • Register your organization's drill at ShakeOut.org/register and select "media organizations" as your category.
  • ShakeOut participation is a great way to make sure your employees know how to protect themselves wherever they may be

We greatly appreciate the role that many broadcasters and other media play each year in encouraging everyone to participate in ShakeOut.

REPORT

While millions will participate in Great ShakeOut Earthquake Drills, millions more will learn by watching, reading, and hearing about what others do through your reporting.
