Scholastic and Shutterfly Develop Innovative Program to Teach Kids Through Photos

Scholastic, the global children’s publishing, education, and media company, and Shutterfly, Inc. (NASDAQ:SFLY), an Internet-based social expression and personal publishing service, today announced the launch of Picture Perfect Language Arts, a free, standards-based program that gives teachers new ways to build their students’ skills in language arts through the powerful medium of photos. The program, developed for kindergarten through third grade teachers, combines Shutterfly’s experience in digital photography and personal publishing with Scholastic’s education expertise to offer a new perspective on teaching language arts while bringing more creativity into the classroom. Educators can access the new program online by visiting www.scholastic.com/shutterfly The Picture Perfect Language Arts program includes six new lesson plans, as well as student reproducibles. Lesson topics range from building classroom community and embracing diversity to collaborating on classroom rules and story telling. The lessons are designed to provide teachers with exciting ways to use digital photography in the classroom to illustrate and reinforce academic concepts while engaging their students.
