Report : Pfizer And Allergan Consider Merger

(RTTNews) - Drug makers Pfizer Inc. (PFE) and Allergan plc. (AGN) are considering a merger, the Wall Street Journal reported citing people familiar with the matter.

The report noted that Pfizer recently approached Allergan about merging. The process is at an early stage and may not lead to an agreement.

Pfizer has a market capitalization of about $219 billion and Allergan has a market value of $113 billion.

There are big obstacles to overcome, however, One could be price. Other issues could include the extent to which Pfizer would want to lay off employees and close facilities, the fate of Allergan CEO Brent Saunders and the general makeup of a combined company's management team, the report said.
