PowerDsine 3001 PoE Midspan and PD64004 PoE Manager Chip Certified Compliant with IEEE 802.3af Standard
PowerDsine(TM) Ltd. (NASDAQ:PDSN), a pioneer in Power over Ethernet (PoE) solutions, announced today that its 3001 PoE Midspan and PD64004 PoE system on a chip, were recently certified as fully interoperable by the Power over Ethernet Consortium operated by the University of New Hampshire InterOperability Laboratory (UNH-IOL) in Durham.
PowerDsine's 3001 PoE Midspan and PD64004 PoE Manager chip are the latest PowerDsine PoE solutions to be certified by the UNH-IOL's Power over Ethernet Consortium. In December 2003, UNH-IOL successfully certified PowerDsine's 6000 PoE Midspan family as well as PowerDsine's PD64012 12-Channel PoE Manager, which was the first IEEE 802.af-compliant PoE solution on an integrated circuit available in the market.
The PowerDsine 3001 Midspan is a one-port power hub which is fully compliant with the IEEE 802.3af PoE standard and is designed for remote powering of wireless LAN access points, IP-enabled cameras and RFID readers in small enterprise and small office environments. The 3001 Midspan eliminates the need for an external power supply and provides remote powering to 802.3af-compliant end-devices, as well as to pre-standard devices.
The PowerDsine PD64004 Manager is a four-port, mixed-signal PoE system on a chip, which is ideal for low density port count switches commonly used in small enterprise and small office switches as well as residential routers. The PD64004 PoE chip manager allows the detection of IEEE 802.3af-compliant terminals, such as wireless LAN access points, VoIP phones and network-based cameras, ensuring safe power feeding over Ethernet ports.
During the interoperability test, UNH-IOL engineers used PowerDsine products to connect end terminals, such as IP phones, to Power Sourcing Equipment (PSE), such as Ethernet switches, to ensure that their products function together in the 802.3af environment. Devices from 3Com, Avaya and Nortel were used to test interoperability with the PowerDsine products.
PowerDsine is one of the founding members of the Power over Ethernet Consortium at UNH-IOL, along with 3Com, Extreme Networks, Nortel Networks and Texas Instruments.
"We are very proud to announce that our PD64004 PoE Manager chip and 3001 PoE Midspan successfully completed all of the UNH-IOL Power over Ethernet Consortium tests. This further validates that our chip and midspan solutions perform correctly and work with all IEEE 802.3af-compliant powered devices," said Igal Rotem, CEO and Co-founder of PowerDsine. "Looking further into the future PowerDsine is actively involved with the IEEE to develop a higher-power PoE standard, dubbed PoEplus, which will meet the power requirements of emerging powered devices."
Complete results of the interoperability tests for all PowerDsine products can be obtained from PowerDsine. The PowerDsine 3001 PoE Midspan and PD64004 PoE Manager are currently available. PowerDsine products are IEEE 802.3af-compliant and also work with pre-standard proprietary inline power solutions.
About Power over Ethernet Technology
PoE is a technology for wired Ethernet, the most widely installed local area network technology in use today. PoE allows the electrical power necessary for the operation of each end-device, to be carried by data cables rather than by separate power cords. It minimizes the number of wires that must be used in order to install the network, resulting in lower cost, less downtime, easier maintenance and greater installation flexibility.
