PECO Says Working To Restore Service Following Holiday Storms

(RTTNews) - PECO, an electric and natural gas utility subsidiary of Exelon Corp. (EXC), said that it has activated its Emergency Response Organization and all available personnel are responding to restore service as safely and quickly as possible following Holiday Storms.

The company also has enhanced staffing in place in the company's call center, dispatch centers and in the field to respond to customer needs.

A line of severe thunderstorms with severe lightning, damaging winds and heavy rainfall moved through the region creating widespread damage and interrupting electric service to about 155,000 PECO customers. As these storms move out of the region, PECO said itscrews will be working throughout the holiday weekend to restore service to all customers impacted by the storm.

In a separate press release, Commonwealth Edison Company or ComEd, a unit of Chicago-based Exelon Corp., said that it restored power to 99 percent of the more than 420,000 customers affected by Monday's fast-moving storms, which included multiple tornadoes and strong winds reaching 120 miles per hour.

These storms brought approximately 80,000 lightning strikes, and caused severe damage to electrical infrastructure, knocking down multiple poles and power lines.

Nearly 900 ComEd and contractor crews have been working around the clock to safely and efficiently restore service to customers. In addition, approximately 400 crews from ten states continue to provide restoration assistance until all customers are restored. Customers who remain without power are in some of the hardest hit areas. Restoration efforts in these locations require the most extensive physical repair work in order to restore power safely. Crews will continue to work until power is restored to all customers.
