(RTTNews) - Packaging Corp. of America (PKG) Tuesday reported second-quarter profit of $64.5 million or $0.66 per share, up from $45.2 million or $0.46 per share in the comparable quarter last year. Adjusted earnings for the quarter was $69 million or $0.71 per share. On average, 12 analysts polled by Thomson Reuters expected the company to earn $0.63 per share for the quarter. Analysts' estimates typically exclude special items.

Sales increased 12 percent to $800 million from $712 million last year. Analysts expected revenues of $770.06 million.

Looking ahead to the third quarter, the company projects earnings of about $0.88 per share. Analysts currently expect the company to earn $0.87 per share for the third quarter.
