New App Busts Cheaters On Tinder
(RTTNews) - Do you suspect that people known to you are on the dating app Tinder, but are not sure about it? A new app could help you to find the answer.
Swipe Buster, a new app, allows a person to track down a user on Tinder, for just $4.99. The person has to simply enter the name, gender and last known location of the person using Tinder.
With this information, Swipe Buster retrieves the user's data from Tinder's application programming interface, or API. Tinder's database and API are public, they are freely available for use by third-party developers.
But the creator of Swipe Buster, who wishes to remain anonymous, reportedly told Vanity Fair that the project was designed to make Tinder and its users aware about how much of the users' personal data is publicly disclosed. Vanity Fair was the first to report on the service.
But a Tinder spokesman said that the all the data is public information.
"If you want to see who's on Tinder, we recommend saving your money and downloading the app for free," the Tinder spokesman said.
The Swipe Buster creator reportedly told Vanity Fair that once Tinder protects its public API, Swipe Buster will no longer exist, which is his "ultimate goal."
Some dating sites have been victims of data breaches recently. In July 2015, hackers stole large amounts of user information from hook-up service site AshleyMadison.com and threatened to leak the details of over 37 million users. The details included their real names, credit-card details and secret sexual-fantasy.
Two months prior to that, hackers leaked user data of millions of accounts from hookup site AdultFriendFinder.
