    RANCHO CORDOVA, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 15, 2005--

    Former SVP of NEC's Worldwide Computer Group Named to Top Post;
    Iwanami Elevated within NEC Corporation's Solutions Business Line

    NEC Solutions (America) Inc., a premier provider of integrated solutions for the Connected Enterprise in North America, today announced that senior NEC Corporation executive Tadao Kondo will assume the post of president and CEO of the North America-based company. He will be succeeding Toshimitsu Iwanami, who has overseen NEC Solutions America's growth since June 2003.
    Mr. Kondo has worked closely with NEC Solutions America since Mr. Iwanami's appointment, and has been instrumental in forging NEC Corporation's partnerships with industry leaders that include Intel Corp., Microsoft Corp. and Hewlett-Packard, Inc. Most recently, Mr. Kondo served as senior vice president of NEC's worldwide computer group.
    With extensive experience building solutions businesses, Mr. Iwanami will become associate senior vice president of a solutions business line at NEC Corporation.
    The change, which becomes effective April 1, 2005, follows a period of significant growth for NEC Solutions America (NECSAM). Composed of business units and innovation centers located throughout the United States, NECSAM delivers services, software and hardware offerings that range from fault tolerant and Itanium servers to biometric and enterprise security, corporate performance management, visual displays, digital cinema and in-theatre advertising systems.
    "On behalf of NEC Solutions America, I am privileged and pleased to welcome Mr. Kondo to his new post, and share the utmost confidence that he will continue the work of helping NEC clients achieve the vision of the 'Connected Enterprise,'" said Mr. Iwanami. "His experience in the North American market and his solutions-oriented mindset make him ideally suited for leading NEC Solutions America."
    "I am excited about this new opportunity and embrace it with the same sense of honor and responsibility that has guided my entire career at NEC," said Mr. Kondo. "Under Mr. Iwanami's leadership, NEC Solutions America has forged a tremendous reputation as a leader in consulting and solutions offerings, and I look forward to continuing his efforts and further entrenching the company's position as a leader in both its technology practices and the markets it serves."
    Mr. Kondo will continue NEC Solutions America's efforts in delivering solutions to Fortune 1,000 enterprises, as well as vertical markets that include health care, government and public safety, financial services, high-technology, retail, manufacturing, and cinema.

    Among many highlights, Mr. Iwanami's tenure included:

-- The launch of the NEC Solutions America/Health Care Solutions Division, dedicated to providing hospitals, physicians and payer organizations with innovative tools, solutions and services to improve security, enhance communications, and maximize patient safety and quality of care, while simplifying processes and reducing administrative and IT costs.

-- The birth of the company's Media Solutions Division, serving both movie theatres and studios, by leveraging NEC's world-class display and server technologies with the company's integration services, to deliver NEC's STARUS(TM) Digital Cinema and ADVASuite(TM) In-Theatre Advertising systems.

-- The emergence of NEC Solutions America's high-quality portable projection systems -- just one segment of its award-winning line of projection and plasma displays -- on the retail market, with retailers that include Best Buy, the nation's leading specialty retailer of technology and entertainment products and services. The company also introduced several new plasma displays for the consumer and enterprise markets.

-- NEC's continued favorable position among law enforcement agencies in the U.S. with its Automated Fingerprint Identification Systems (AFIS), and in July 2004, its top ranking in all categories of the Fingerprint Vendor Technology Evaluation (FpVTE) 2003, sponsored by the Justice Management Division of the U.S. Department of Justice and conducted by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST).

-- Back-to-back "Best of Show" awards at CeBIT America 2003 and 2004 for NEC Solutions America's enterprise hardware and software offerings.

    Mr. Kondo joined NEC in 1970, and has been elevated to increasingly senior management roles during his tenure. He earned a bachelor's and a master's degree in electrical engineering from Chiba University in Japan.
