MOST® Networking Solution Adopted in Hyundai’s New Flagship EQUUS Sedan
SMSC (NASDAQ: SMSC), a leading semiconductor company that provides Smart Mixed-Signal Connectivity™ solutions, today announced that its Media Oriented Systems Transport (MOST®) networking technology, has been selected as part of the infotainment system for the new Hyundai EQUUS. Adoption of the technology in this new luxury sedan follows the incorporation of MOST in Hyundai’s Genesis sedan and the Kia Mohave, which were announced last year.
The Hyundai EQUUS is the latest vehicle in Hyundai’s lineup that uses MOST to provide a full-featured driver information system. The EQUUS is currently the top of the line Hyundai model available in South Korea and includes many other advanced technologies, such as Vehicle Stability Management, a Lane Departure Warning System and an Adaptive Front Lighting System.
"The continued rollout of MOST by the Hyundai Motor Company demonstrates its commitment to the technology and is raising the profile of MOST in Asia,” said Dr. Christian Thiel, Vice President and General Manager of SMSC's Automotive Information Systems product line. "The flexible and efficient architecture enabled by MOST not only benefits individual car models, but also helps car makers develop complete infotainment platforms that can be easily adapted across their vehicle lines and markets, without having to undertake a whole new development program each time.”
The adoption of MOST at a car maker typically begins with a single car model and quickly expands to multiple platforms. Its distributed architecture simplifies adding or removing functions as needed for various market segments. MOST provides the means to distribute multimedia entertainment functions among the various control devices around the car. For example, navigation functions, mobile telephone and CD changer options can be easily added or deleted without major changes to the system architecture. A central control and user interface system can communicate with all audio and video sources and can simplify the interactions of the driver with the feature-rich entertainment system.
