Microsoft Drops Europe Browser Choice Page
(RTTNews) - Microsoft has brought an end to their browser choice web screen, which offered new Windows users various web browsing applications. The PC maker was ordered to create the screen, hosted at browserchoice.eu, as part of a 2009 antitrust suit in the EU but now that requirement has expired.
The page has been pulled and now a message sits in its place reading:
"The obligations imposed by the decision have now expired and Microsoft will no longer maintain this website. Microsoft encourages customers who want more information about web browsers or want to download another browser to do so by visiting the websites of web browser vendors directly."
The European Commission released a statement affirm the website's effectiveness, claiming that it was viewed 795 million times and 165 million browsers were successfully downloaded through the site, according to pcworld.com.
"The Microsoft commitments, in particular the browser choice screen, were a successful remedy," a Commission rep noted.
