McDonald's To Trim Drive-Thru Menu, Expand All-Day Breakfast

(RTTNews) - As part of ongoing efforts to boost domestic growth, McDonald's Corp plans to trim its drive-through menu, expand all-day breakfast, and rejig its mid-price offerings, the Wall Street Journal reported.

McDonald's is planning to display only its popular drive-through items on outside menu boards to expedite orders, the Journal said quoting people familiar with the matter. This was part of McDonald's executives who had a web-cast meeting with franchisees.

The company also will ramp up its mid-price menu with items costing between $1.50 and $3, the Journal said.

The move comes amid persistent complaints by McDonald's franchisees that customers do not have enough mid-price items to choose from.

As a solution, the company plans to add a McChicken sandwich with leaf lettuce and tomato, and a double burger with leaf lettuce and tomato for around $1.50, up from the current price of $1.19 to $1.39 for similar sandwiches.

McDonald's will also introduce lemonade drinks this summer and expand a test of all-day breakfast, currently available in San Diego.

McDonald's CEO Steve Easterbrook has been striving to boost traffic, and the company has had revamped its menu. Recently, at an investor presentation, Easterbrook said he would focus more on franchised restaurants to propel growth.
