McDonald's Planning Drive-Thru Pickup App

(RTTNews) - Fast food giant McDonald's (MCD) is reportedly prepping up to launch a mobile application for its customers to order and pay for their food using smartphones.

According to Business Insider, citing McDonald's spokeswoman Becca Hary, the company will roll out the service next year in the US and international lead markets, including Australia, Canada, France, and the UK

The company expects the service will be available at 20,000 to 25,000 restaurants worldwide by 2018.

Food chains like Starbucks and Chick-fil-A have all used mobile technology to improve their sales by offering order-and-pay facility. However, McDonalds, which is the biggest fast-food chain in the world, has been late to adopt the technology.

The burger chain had started testing mobile ordering earlier this year at 22 locations in Columbus, Georgia, however, later discontinued the test, according to Ad Age.
