LexisNexis Redesigns Its General Reference Services

LexisNexis®, a leading global provider of content-enabled workflow solutions, today announced the completion of its redesigned general reference services for higher education, public library, and secondary schools markets. LexisNexis® Academic, LexisNexis® Library Express and LexisNexis® Scholastic now provide a more intuitive interface that is customized to the needs of each respective user group. All three products will be showcased at the American Library Association Annual Conference, June 25-28, 2010, in Washington, DC.

The new interface design uses a three-tiered approach. An "Easy Search” form with multiple search widgets allows quick access to the most popular and important sources; subject area forms provide a guided search in specialized sources such as newspapers, case law, and company information; and the "Power Search” form supports advanced LexisNexis search techniques for any source in the user’s subscription. The new design leverages Web 2.0 capabilities with a wiki taking the place of the traditional Help system and YouTube™ used to deliver video tutorials.

"The idea behind these coordinated updates to our flagship product in each market is to create a seamless transition for our users,” said Alistair Morrison, director of Product Planning. "Those who are introduced to LexisNexis Scholastic in their high schools will find it easy to use LexisNexis Academic when they go to college. Those who wish to use the same product outside of academia will see a similar interface in LexisNexis Library Express. All three products provide powerful, precise and authoritative results; and we believe the new look and feel will be a real help to our users as well as the librarians and teachers who support them.”

LexisNexis is using a phased approach to roll out the upgrades. The LexisNexis Library Express product for public libraries became available in May; the LexisNexis Academic product for higher education, which has been available since last year, will migrate all subscribers on July 30th; and the LexisNexis Scholastic product for secondary education will be upgraded for all customers in September and October of this year.

LexisNexis Scholastic will be complemented by significant content additions, including thousands of news sources. All three products include broad news coverage, comprehensive U.S. and state case law and statutes, and the premier LexisNexis® Company Dossier service.

To see all the products live, stop by booth #1934 at the 2010 American Library Association Annual Conference in Washington, DC or visit http://academic.lexisnexis.com for more information.
