Japan's ANA Holdings To Split 16.5 Bln Aircraft Order Between Boeing And Airbus

(RTTNews) - ANA Holdings, Inc. (ALNPY, ANA.L), the parent of All Nippon Airways Co., announced Thursday that its board of directors have approved the purchase of 40 aircraft from aerospace and defense giant Boeing Co. (BA) and 30 aircraft from airplane maker Airbus Group (EADSF, EADSY). The $16.5 billion deal, when finalized, will be the largest ever aircraft order in ANA's history.

ANA has approved an order to Boeing for six B777-300ER, twenty B777-9X and 14 B787-9 Dreamliner aircraft valued at 1.361 trillion yen or $12.96 billion at list prices.

It also approved an order to Airbus for seven A320neo and twenty-three A321neo aircraft valued at 366 billion yen or $3.49 billion at list prices.

The aircraft order to Boeing is slated for deliveries between fiscal 2017 to fiscal 2027, while the aircraft order to Airbus is scheduled for deliveries between fiscal 2016 to fiscal 2023.

ANA continues to stay with Boeing to satisfy its requirement of long-range widebody aircraft, while Airbus will supply the single-aisle A320neo and A321neo fuel-efficient short-range aircraft. Airbus is yet to break into ANA's widebody requirements despite the continuing problems with Boeing's Dreamliners.

Meanwhile, Boeing welcomed the selection of 40 of its widebody airplanes for ANA's strategic fleet renewal. Boeing added that it looks forward to working with ANA on finalizing the deal, after which the order will be posted to its orders & deliveries website.

"ANA and Boeing share a long and successful partnership that spans more than five decades. ANA helped launched the 787 Dreamliner with Boeing, and we are honored to once again have ANA as an early customer of the 777X family of airplanes," said Boeing Commercial Airplanes President and CEO Ray Conner.

In Thursday's regular trading session, BA is currently trading at $123.91, up $0.38 or 0.31% on a volume of 0.98 million shares, while EADSY is trading at $18.00, down $0.10 or 0.55% on a volume of 6,329 shares.
