Business Editors/High-Tech Editors
BELLEVUE, Wash.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 16, 2005--Calling all poker enthusiasts -- InfoSpace (Nasdaq:INSP), a leading provider of mobile entertainment content, and ThwartPoker Inc., the world's leading provider of skill-based strategy poker, today announced the upcoming Hold'em Poker+ for Prizes(TM) Mobile Mega Tournament Championship. From May 16, 2005 to August 14, 2005, players can download Hold'em Poker+ for Prizes, published by InfoSpace Games, on their mobile phones and compete against other mobile gamers for prizes to become the Hold'em Poker+ Grand Champion. The Grand Champion will win a trip for two to Las Vegas to dine and play poker with Robert Williamson III, World Series of Poker champion and the host of Poker Royale on GSN. The grand prize will include airfare, hotel for two nights and rental car.
"With the Hold'em Poker+ for Prizes Mobile Mega Tournament Championship, we're taking one of our most popular games and allowing everyone to compete for a poker player's dream vacation," said Andy Riedel, vice president of game development at InfoSpace. "With the skyrocketing popularity of poker and the growing success of our 'For Prizes' Network, we expect this to be one of our largest tournaments ever."
Hold'em Poker+ is one of the most widely played mobile skill-based strategy poker games in the world. In this unique twist to traditional Texas Hold'em Poker, three community cards are first dealt followed by four rounds in which the players pick their cards based on desired face value. Played against virtual opponents, the object of the game is to skillfully put together a winning hand without being blocked, while trying to block a virtual opponent that might be building a better hand.
"Hold'em Poker+ for Prizes is an exciting twist for America's most popular game, Texas Hold 'em," said Robert Williamson III. "I am proud to launch the Mobile Mega Tournament Championship and I look forward to playing with fans on my cell phone."
The simple gameplay lends itself well to the mobile screen, allowing poker experts and novices alike to compete in head-to-head and weekly high-score tournaments. After three months of skill-based competition in the Hold'em Poker+ For Prizes Mobile Mega Tournament, the Grand Champion will emerge. Sony PSPs will be awarded to the Best Score Champion, the Best Average Score Champion, and the Best Ranking in Head-to-Head Champion. Other prizes include a $1,000 Amazon gift certificate, a $250 Amazon gift certificate, $100 and $50 gift certificates for poker merchandise, yearly subscriptions to ALL IN Magazine, and copies of the newly released poker DVD From the Kitchen Table to the Final Table featuring Robert Williamson III.
The Mega Tournament will be available across all carriers offering the Hold 'em Poker+ For Prizes game in the United States.
All winners will be announced on September 1, 2005. Full tournament details can be found on www.atlas-mobile.com.
