HP and NFL’s Justin Tuck Join with DonorsChoose.org to Support Teachers in Tornado-stricken States

HP (NYSE:HPQ) and Justin Tuck, a New York Giants football player with the National Football League (NFL) and an Alabama native, today announced a commitment to fulfill DonorsChoose.org requests from teachers throughout all of Alabama and additional areas impacted by the recent tornadoes.

Requests made by teachers in the affected states and submitted to DonorsChoose.org prior to May 7 will receive confirmation that their requests will be fulfilled through a combined donation from HP and Tuck’s R.U.S.H. for Literacy program. The effort is part of HP’s $1.5 million donation to DonorsChoose.org, a nonprofit online charity dedicated to connecting people with classrooms in need.

HP and Tuck’s donation will reach more than 15,000 students across Alabama, Georgia, Mississippi and Tennessee. Teacher requests range from classroom supplies to books and computers at schools particularly impacted by the disaster. HP employees also will be volunteering at schools to assist in technology setup as well as relief cleanup.

"After the tornado catastrophe, we wanted to mobilize our citizen philanthropy platform to help local teachers and students impacted by the disaster,” said Charles Best, founder, DonorsChoose.org. "HP has been a strong corporate sponsor in our partnership to improve education, and together we worked quickly to ensure that funds could be applied to directly assist teachers in some of the hardest hit areas of the South.”

HP has collaborated with DonorsChoose.org since 2009 to help ensure students nationwide have access to the tools and resources needed for an excellent education and learning experience.

"Supporting education initiatives has been a priority for HP over the past 70 years, and we are dedicated to finding innovative ways to use our technology, people and resources to address some of the most pressing social issues such as education,” said Gabi Zedlmayer, vice president, Office of Global Social Innovation, HP. "Our collaboration with DonorsChoose.org has enabled us to make an immediate difference and directly help teachers and students so they can focus on rebuilding their communities.”

Driving innovation in educational funding is part of HP’s social innovation program, which aims to enrich society by using the breadth and scale of HP to drive structural, systemic improvements in communities worldwide. By harnessing the power of technology, HP aims to increase access to education, enhance teaching and learning, and turn entrepreneurial ambition into action.

About DonorsChoose.org

Founded in 2000, DonorsChoose.org is a nonprofit website where public school teachers describe specific educational projects for their students, and donors can choose the projects they want to support. After completing a project, the donor hears back from the classroom they supported in the form of photographs and student thank-you letters.

To date, 178,000 public and charter school teachers have used the site to secure funding for $83 million in books, art supplies, technology, and other resources that their students need to learn.

About Tuck’s R.U.S.H. for Literacy

In 2008, Lauran and Justin Tuck founded Tuck’s R.U.S.H. for Literacy to encourage children to READ, UNDERSTAND, SUCCEED and HOPE. Tuck’s R.U.S.H. for Literacy has been committed to raising funds to donate books and reading materials to support children in the New York City and central Alabama communities, as well as providing local organizations with grants to further serve youth. By supporting the communities that have supported them, the Tucks hope to encourage children to embrace literacy and have the opportunity to learn and grow. Since 2008, Tuck’s R.U.S.H. has raised nearly $1 million to support youth literacy initiatives.
