Gluten-Free Cheerios Recall Announced

(RTTNews) - General Mills Inc. (GIS) is voluntarily recalling 1.8 million boxes of "gluten-free" Cheerios and Honey Nut Cheerios manufactured at its Lodi, California facility, as it may contain wheat.

Wheat was inadvertently mixed into the gluten free oat flour at its facility in Lodi, California. As a result, the products may contain an undeclared allergen wheat in products labeled as gluten-free.

Products containing wheat may cause several health effects for people with wheat allergies.

The recall includes four days production of original (yellow box) Cheerios, and thirteen days of production of Honey Nut Cheerios with the following "BETTER IF USED BY" code dates between July 14, 2016 and July 17, 2016, for original Cheerios and between July 12, 2016 and July 25, 2016 for the honey-nut Cheerios. It also includes plant code LD which indicates the product was produced at Lodi, California.

On Friday, General Mills had announced a voluntary recall of a small amount of frozen Cascadian Farm Cut Green Beans after a package tested positive for listeria.
