GE Centricity EMR Helps Power Community Health Network’s Latest Innovation
GE Healthcare, a leading provider of healthcare information technology, is providing digital medical record technology for the Jane Pauley Community Health Center (Indianapolis). The center, which opened Wednesday, is a unique collaboration between Community Health Network and the Metropolitan School District of Warren Township. Housed inside a school, the facility advances the complete care concept by providing schools, hospitals, specialists and primary care physicians with secure access to their patient’s medical records through GE’s Centricity EMR.
"Community Health Network has a clearly defined mission to deliver community-driven healthcare,” said Dr. Brandon Savage, chief medical officer of GE Healthcare Information Technology. "They do it by pulling in schools, hospitals and community health clinics to deliver a holistic healthcare model. In fact, they do it so well they’ve become a nationwide model for complete community care. GE is proud to work with their clinicians, providing Centricity solutions and helping them deliver high performance healthcare to the patients they serve.”
The Jane Pauley Community Health Center will offer primary healthcare services including preventative and annual exams, well-child care, acute care and chronic disease management. Community Health Network will provide a nurse practitioner, a family physician and a psychologist to serve patients. The center will serve the local community, including students and their families, regardless of insurance or income, with an emphasis on integrating medical, dental and behavioral health.
Centricity EMR will play a large role in this holistic approach, enabling the Jane Pauley Community Health Center to do something few facilities have done before; create a complete patient record merging both physical and behavioral data. In the fragmented healthcare system that exists in the U.S. today, most behavioral health and dental offices aren’t able to document patient care information in the same system used by community health centers, primary care and hospital-based physicians, isolating this information and making it difficult to obtain a patient’s complete medical history.
"Technology is at the very core of our innovative model of care that breaks down silos to allow the clinician to see more of the patient’s overall health picture,” said Ed Koschka, chief information officer at Community Health Network. "As we open this new facility, we are thrilled to extend the benefits of Centricity EMR – which we have already realized in our clinic settings – to this new paradigm of comprehensive community health. Without the standards-based foundation of Centricity, this exchange of patient data would be far more difficult."
Community Health Network is one of the largest health systems in Indiana with five hospitals and 90 sites of care. The network is nationally recognized for its quality of care and use of healthcare technology. More than 2,200 CHN clinicians are using GE Centricity’s portfolio, accessing patient data across community health centers, hospitals and multi-specialty practices. The network has utilized Centricity EMR in its clinics since 2002. Earlier this week, GE announced Community’s flagship hospital went live with GE Centricity™ Enterprise 6.1 and Monitored Care, an integrated clinical, financial and administrative solution that helps streamline workflow and improve productivity across the continuum of care. The implementation of the two solutions will help Community Hospital South capture clinical and medical device data in a patient’s Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system, enabling healthcare providers to provide comprehensive and efficient care.
