FedEx Freight Continues Strategic Expansion and Growth Throughout U.S. Leading LTL carrier opens four centers and expands a fifth to meet increasing demand for its portfolio of shipping solutions
FedEx Freight, a subsidiary of FedEx Corp. (NYSE: FDX), continues its aggressive nationwide expansion by opening four new service centers and expanding a fifth facility to meet growing customer demand throughout the United States.
"Increasing capacity remains an important business goal as FedEx Freight continues its long-term growth strategy focusing on next-day and second-day regional markets," said Douglas G. Duncan, president and CEO of FedEx Freight. "Our efforts to build new facilities and upgrade current centers underscore our commitment to exceeding customers' service and reliability expectations in these growing markets."
A leading provider of regional and interregional less-than-truckload (LTL) services in the U.S., FedEx Freight continues to grow as more customers entrust their fast-cycle logistics needs to a carrier with a reputation for quality, certainty and service excellence - all backed by the power of the FedEx brand.
Newly-constructed and recently-opened facilities include state-of-the-art service centers in Des Plaines, Ill., Salem, Ore., Texarkana, Ark. and Springfield, Mass. In addition, a supplemental building at the company's Long Island center in West Babylon, N.Y., will enhance area service and capacity capabilities.
While the new Des Plaines, Salem and Texarkana centers replace older facilities in their respective areas, the center in Springfield marks the first FedEx Freight facility in that area. Increasing breadth of service to the busy I-90 and I-91 corridors and the New England region, the center includes 23 doors and 18,000 square feet of dock, office and shop space on a four-acre site. The Springfield facility employs 20 full- and part-time employees.
The new 44,000-sq.-ft. facility in Des Plaines, Ill., which includes 76 service doors, is instrumental in meeting growing demand in the busy Chicago metropolitan area and the Great Lakes region. The 10,000-sq.-ft. Salem, Ore., center is helping meet capacity needs in Oregon and the Pacific Northwest. Equipped with 28 service doors on a six-acre site, the facility replaces a 24-door center.
Situated on an eight-acre site, the 17,000-sq.-ft. Texarkana service center features 36 doors, replacing a 24-door, three-acre complex. The new Arkansas facility will help meet increasing demand along the bustling I-30 corridor. The Long Island facility has added a nearby building to increase its size from 30 to 60 doors, doubling freight handling capabilities. Increasing capacity and maximizing service to the New York City metro area, the current and new buildings include more than 17,000 square feet of office, dock and shop space on seven acres.
These service center openings follow other recent expansions, including the addition of a new center in Gardena, Calif., and expanded facilities in Youngstown, Ohio, and Pocono Summit, Pa. FedEx Freight also recently announced plans for a new center near Sacramento, Calif., scheduled to open in 2006.
