Facebook Boosts Global Economy By $227 Bln., 4.5 Mln. Jobs
(RTTNews) - Facebook Inc. (FB) has contributed $227 billion and created 4.5 million jobs to the world economy in 2014, according to a study conducted by Deloitte that was sponsored by the social-networking website.
The study, which was released on Tuesday, claims that "Facebook enables global economic activity by helping to unlock new opportunities through connecting people and businesses, lowering barriers to marketing, and stimulating innovation."
According to the study, Facebook recorded its largest economic impact on the US of about $100 billion and helped create about 1.1 million jobs. UK had the second-biggest share of economic impact from Facebook in 2014, of about $11 billion and 154,000 jobs.
Facebook, which is the largest social-networking service in world with about 1.35 billion users, serves as a "catalyst for economic activity in ecosystems" that included marketers, app developers and connectivity providers, the study says.
FB is currently trading at $75.63, up $0.45 or 0.60%, on the Nasdaq.
