Executive Appointments Announced in Gannett's Newspaper Division

Several executive appointments were announced today byGannett Co. Inc. (NYSE:GCI).

-- Mark Mikolajczyk becomes president and publisher of FLORIDA TODAY. He succeeds Michael J. Coleman, publisher of FLORIDA TODAY and a senior group president since 1994, who is retiring after 42 years with the company. Mikolajczyk was president and CEO of the Detroit Newspaper Partnership, L.P.

-- Carol Hudler, president and publisher of the News-Press in Fort Myers, FL, becomes group president of the newly formed Sun Coast Group.

-- Denise Ivey, formerly president and publisher of The News Journal in Pensacola, FL, becomes president of the newly created Mid-South Group and president and publisher of The Courier-Journal in Louisville, KY. At Louisville, she succeeds Edward E. Manassah, who will become executive-in-residence at Bellarmine University in Louisville, where he will develop the plan for a new School of Communications, Media and Culture.

-- Kevin Doyle succeeds Ivey as president and publisher of The News Journal. Doyle was publisher of the Oshkosh (WI) Northwestern. A successor to Doyle will be named shortly.

"Mike Coleman has been one of the key players in the growth andsuccess of Gannett's Newspaper Division over the last two decades,"said Sue Clark-Johnson, president of the division. "On both the newsside and the business side, Mike's leadership has positively impactednot only his newspaper, but all of the newspapers he has touched. Iwill miss working with him," Clark-Johnson said.

"I am delighted Mark is succeeding Mike at FLORIDA TODAY, where hewill continue the tradition of excellence," Clark Johnson said. "Markhas served us well in Detroit, managing the completion of astate-of-the-art press center and the transition to the DetroitNewspapers Partnership. He is an accomplished newspaper professional."

"In his 13 years as publisher in Louisville, Ed Manassah presidedover an excellent newspaper, recognized nationally for itslongstanding commitment to in-depth journalism," Clark-Johnson said."Ed also played a prominent role in Louisville's community affairs. Iwish him well in his new opportunity and thank him for his 33 years ofservice to Gannett."

"Denise earned her stripes during 13 years in Pensacola, where sheled an excellent team to new heights and survived two of the mostdifficult hurricane seasons in recent memory. She brings a testedstrength of character and will to her new positions," Clark-Johnsonsaid.

"Carol has come through for Gannett time and time again. She is aterrific team member, and just the right person to carve out a newrole at Gannett," Clark-Johnson said.

"Kevin's rise from sports reporter to newsroom leader to Gannettexecutive gives him great credentials for the leadership role inPensacola. We welcome him to the Florida group," Clark-Johnson said.

Mark Mikolajczyk began his Gannett career as a productionassistant at The Reporter in Lansdale, PA. He has worked at USA TODAY;The Cincinnati Enquirer; the Times Herald, Port Huron, MI; and atGannett corporate headquarters as vice president and senior vicepresident of production for the Newspaper Division.

Carol Hudler was president and publisher at The Macon (GA)Telegraph and served in various executive positions with Gannett inRochester. She joined Gannett at Fort Myers in 1988 after an 11-yearcareer in newspaper advertising at publications in California,Missouri and Kansas.

Denise Ivey served as publisher in Pensacola for 12 years. Iveyalso served as president and publisher of The Herald-Dispatch inHuntington, WV, and publisher of The Times in Gainesville, FL. Shejoined Gannett in 1983.

Kevin Doyle joined Gannett with the acquisition of the Thomsonpapers in 2000. He began his journalism career as a sports writer andwas an editor, managing editor, vice president and editor, executivemanager and publisher with Thomson.
