EMC Bolsters Industry's Broadest Portfolio of Backup, Recovery and Archive Software
ORLANDO, Fla., May 21 /PRNewswire/ -- EMC WORLD -- Today at EMC World, EMC Corporation , the world leader in information infrastructure solutions, announced new and updated software solutions that help customers leverage next generation backup, recovery archive capabilities to scale, manage and protect the information infrastructure. Coupled with the new EMC(R) Disk Library 6000 Series and EMC Avamar(R) version 3.7 software (see separate releases), these new offerings expand the industry's broadest portfolio of data protection solutions.
EMC is strengthening its backup, recovery and archive software portfolio with the new EMC HomeBase(TM) software, which delivers critical bare metal recovery (BMR) functionality. BMR is the restoration of server state configurations, taking place prior to the recovery of operating system, application and user data. In addition, EMC NetWorker(R) backup and recovery software now supports more languages and has been enhanced with new ease of use features. The new version of EMC RecoverPoint(TM) replication software features improved capabilities to enable and automate the rapid recovery of critical Microsoft applications. Finally, EMC DiskXtender(R) for NAS (network attached storage) archiving software features expanded file migration interoperability with support for file servers from Network Appliance and others.
Introducing EMC HomeBase for Bare Metal Recovery
New EMC HomeBase software simplifies server protection by automatically capturing and storing point-in-time profiles of the server configuration required for bare metal recovery. Unlike traditional BMR products that introduce a new workflow requiring the periodic creation of a new system image to ensure recovery, EMC HomeBase seamlessly integrates into the backup and recovery workflow and leverages existing investments within the backup infrastructure to reduce complexity and ensure fast and repeatable product server configuration recoveries.
At the time of recovery, HomeBase software applies a source server's profile to the new target server hardware, eliminating the time-consuming and costly effort of having to re-configure systems and applications in the case of hardware failure or disaster. In addition, HomeBase software provides complementary capabilities to NetWorker, Avamar and VMware(R) software.
EMC NetWorker - Internationalization and Ease of Use Enhancements
With support of more languages, EMC NetWorker software now offers improved management and support capabilities for customers using NetWorker software in multiple locales. Additionally, new ease of use features in NetWorker software include centralized software distribution, enhanced GUI flexibility and an improved UNIX recovery interface. Finally, EMC is releasing a new NetWorker Module for Oracle, providing new wizards to improve recovery, new application staging features and support for encryption.
EMC RecoverPoint - New Integration with Microsoft VSS and EMC Replication Manager
EMC RecoverPoint software provides heterogeneous data protection and recovery, delivered via a split-path architecture. This enables customers to run the solution on an out-of-band appliance with either a host agent or an intelligent switch located in the network (in-band). It provides Continuous Remote Replication (CRR) or local Continuous Data Protection (CDP), which safeguards information to any point in time in the event of failures or data corruption caused by environmental, hardware, software, and/or human error.
The new version of RecoverPoint software offers support for Microsoft Volume Shadow Copy Service (VSS), which improves the automation and management of backup and restore of critical applications like Microsoft Exchange Server and Microsoft SQL Server. In addition, RecoverPoint software is now also integrated with EMC Replication Manager software, which enables users to manage RecoverPoint CDP-protected applications and other supported EMC replication technologies via a single console.
Duane Swizer, Vice President and Director of Technical Operations at First Independent, a privately-held diversified financial company with locations in Oregon and Washington, said, "We are zealous about making sure our products and services align with our clients' changing needs. To help us achieve our mission and maintain our core values, we leverage EMC RecoverPoint to replicate critical application data remotely from one EMC CLARiiON system to another. With the new support for Microsoft's Volume Shadow Copy Service (VSS), we are looking to further expand our information protection capabilities in enhancing recovery point objectives of Microsoft Exchange data. EMC provides us with the peace of mind that we can securely and affordably protect our critical data and application - something we are committed to doing for our own clients."
EMC DiskXtender for NAS - Support for More File Servers
EMC DiskXtender for NAS software is automated file archiving software that migrates inactive files from primary NAS to secondary tiers of storage. The new version of the DiskXtender for NAS software adds support for filers from Network Appliance along with previously supported EMC Celerra(R) systems, enabling inactive file migration and long term data retention to platforms such as EMC Centera(R) content-addressed storage systems, EMC CLARiiON(R) networked storage or other storage archives. Acting transparently, the software frees up space on primary storage, improves application performance and reduces backup data sets while speeding recovery for Windows, UNIX and Linux NAS environments.
David Donatelli, EMC's Executive Vice President of Storage Product Operations, said, "EMC is changing the way customers look at backup and recovery. Customers are constantly telling us that they want more efficient ways to backup the avalanche of data that they are facing, and recover it as close to 'instantly' as possible. EMC has developed the broadest set of backup, recovery and archiving software in the industry to help customers meet these objectives. We are expanding our market leading capabilities even further to include bare metal recovery and continuous data protection for Microsoft applications. Combined with additional platform support and ease- of-use features, EMC is delivering the innovative solutions that help customers more rapidly, efficiently and cost-effectively protect their information infrastructures."
