Elon Musk: Tesla Will Eliminate Model S 'Range Anxiety'

(RTTNews) - Tesla Motors, Inc. (TSLA) CEO Elon Musk has announced that a new over-the-air software update to all Model S cars will end "range anxiety" - the stress and tension that electric car drivers feel when they fear that their vehicle does not have enough charge to reach its destination and they may not be near a charging station.

Musk tweeted Sunday, "Tesla press conf at 9am on Thurs. About to end range anxiety … via OTA software update. Affects entire Model S fleet."

Currently, the Model S' cabin electronics will show the driver a warning if the battery is getting low. The navigation system includes a database of charging stations. It

Musk silenced his critics with two successive tweets on Monday that his earlier tweet was not meant for manipulating Tesla stock. Musk tweeted, "Some people seem to think I tweet to affect share price. This is false. A brief rise in $TSLA stock obviously does no good for Tesla or me."

"Neither I nor the company are selling shares. Even if we were, I wouldn't do this. It would be wrong. Our long term results are what matter," he added.

Tesla shares are currently trading at $194.65, down $1.05. The shares trade in a 52-week range of $177.22 to $291.42.
