Doreen Spadorcia Promoted to EVP, Claim and Thomas Kunkel Promoted to President and CEO, Bond for St. Paul Travelers

    SAINT PAUL, Minn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 2, 2005--The St. Paul Travelers Companies, Inc. ("St. Paul Travelers," NYSE:STA) today announced that Doreen Spadorcia has been promoted to Executive Vice President, Claim, to lead the company's claim organization. In her new role, which reports to co-Chief Operating Officer Brian MacLean, Spadorcia has also been named to serve on the company's management committee.
    Most recently, Spadorcia was President and Chief Executive Officer of St. Paul Travelers Bond. Previously, she was President and Chief Executive Officer of Travelers Bond, a position she held since June 2002. From 1994 to 2002, Spadorcia managed the Travelers Bond Claim operation and served as General Counsel for the business unit, responsible for legal, regulatory and compliance matters. She joined Travelers in 1986 as an attorney in Claim.

    In a related move, the company has promoted Thomas Kunkel to President and Chief Executive Officer, Bond, leading the Bond business in the company's Specialty segment. In his new role, Kunkel reports to co-Chief Operating Officer Mike Miller.
    Since September 2003, Kunkel has been responsible for the Commercial Surety market segment within Bond. Kunkel joined the company in 1984 as an Account Executive in the Omaha office. He became Manager of the Iowa/Nebraska Bond Territory in 1990 and was promoted to Vice President in 1996, responsible for Bond operations in a five-state region. Beginning in 2001, he was Senior Vice President in charge of Construction Services Northeast/Midwest region and later assumed responsibilities for National Field Management in Bond, including Surety and Executive Liability.
