Deutsche Asset Management names Bernd Scherer Head of Research Center for Quantitative Strategies Group

Deutsche Asset Management (DeAM) today announced thatBernd Scherer has been appointed Head of the Quantitative StrategiesGroup's Research Center in New York. The Research Center functions asthe Quantitative Strategies Group's "think tank," with a staff ofprofessionals who use their unique knowledge and experience to conductadvanced research, portfolio modeling, engineering and construction.

"The outstanding work of Bernd and the Research Team will becentral toward meeting the goal of the Quantitative Strategies Group,which is to be the leading provider of innovative quantitativeinvestment solutions worldwide," said Janet Campagna, Global Head ofQuantitative Strategies.

Scherer, who had most recently served as the head of QuantitativeStrategies' investment solutions and overlay management group inFrankfurt, has achieved a reputation during his 10-year career as anexpert on asset valuation, portfolio construction, strategic assetallocation and asset liability modeling. A much sought-after speaker,Bernd has also published several books, including PortfolioConstruction and Risk Budgeting, Liability Hedging and PortfolioChoice, Introduction to Modern Portfolio Optimization and his latestwork, Asset and Liability Management Tools: A Handbook for BestPractice. Bernd has a Master's degree in economics from the Universityof Augsburg, a MS from the University of London and a PhD from theUniversity of Giessen. Bernd is an adjunct professor of finance at theEuropean Business School and the University at Augsburg.

Other members of the Research Center team include Colm O'Cinneideand Xiadong Xu. Colm is the senior director of quantitative research,having joined DeAM in 2000 after 18 years of experience in facultypositions at the University of Arkansas and Purdue University. He hasa Ph.D. from the University of Kentucky and also holds a B.S. and anM.S. from the National University of Ireland. Colm is an adjunctprofessor of finance at Columbia University. Xiadong is a quantitativeresearch analyst who joined the company this year after earning hisdoctorate from Northwestern University. He also holds a B.A. and aB.E. from University of Science and Technology of China.
