BIO-key and Cingular Partner to Provide Security Solutions at Logan Ai

ATLANTA and WALL, N.J., Feb. 11 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Cingular Wireless and BIO-key International, Inc. (BULLETIN BOARD: BKYI) jointly announced today they are providing an integrated solution to the Massachusetts Port Authority (Massport) to connect law enforcement officers protecting Boston's Logan International Airport to mission-critical enterprise information. Cingular Wireless and BIO-key also said today that they are providing the Massachusetts State Police with a high-speed wireless law enforcement solution that is being deployed statewide.

Massachusetts State Police troopers assigned to Massport are using BIO- key's PocketCop software operating on HP iPAQ Pocket PCs over the nationwide Cingular Wireless EDGE high-speed wireless data network. The EDGE-enabled PocketCop solution allows state troopers patrolling Logan International to have near real-time access to driver license information, including driver photographs, vehicle registration, stolen vehicle information, weapon registrations, wants and warrant information, and access to local, county, state and federal criminal databases. EDGE, based on the GSM(TM) world standard for wireless communications, is the fastest national wireless data network in the U.S., providing coverage in 8,500 cities and towns, and along 30,000 miles of interstate highways.

Cingular Wireless and BIO-key are also in the process of rolling out a high-speed wireless data solution for the Massachusetts State Police, the longest serving statewide law enforcement agency in the nation. EDGE-enabled laptops are being mounted in State Police patrol vehicles and will feature PocketCop as well as automatic vehicle location (AVL) and global positioning satellite (GPS) capabilities. There are currently 600 units deployed statewide and about 1,400 more planned.
