AmSouth Bank Receives Outstanding Community Reinvestment Act Rating
Business Editors
BIRMINGHAM, Ala.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 20, 2005--The Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta has awarded AmSouth Bank (NYSE: ASO) a rating of "Outstanding" on its most recent Community Reinvestment Act performance examination.
The Community Reinvestment Act (CRA), enacted in 1977, requires banks to help meet the credit needs of the communities they serve, including low- and moderate-income communities and persons.
Each bank's primary regulator periodically evaluates CRA performance under a lending, service and investment test. A bank is examined on its mortgage, small business and community development lending, its community development investments and its retail banking and community development services in the communities where it operates.
"AmSouth Bank is pleased to have earned two consecutive 'Outstanding' ratings, and we appreciate the contribution of our excellent community partners and employees who helped us achieve this top rating. Continually striving to meet the credit needs of each and every one of our communities aligns with AmSouth's long-standing commitment to build lasting relationships," says C. Dowd Ritter, Chairman and CEO of AmSouth Bank.
