America Online, Inc. Announces Acquisition of Wildseed, Ltd.
America Online, Inc., the world's leading interactive servicescompany, today announced that it has increased its investment in thewireless services sector by acquiring Wildseed, Ltd. - a leadingprovider of advanced wireless technologies - and also by forming anexpanded AOL Wireless group.
Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. The company waspreviously privately held.
Wildseed was founded in June 2000 and is based in Kirkland,Washington, with offices in London, UK. The company is best known forits SmartSkin(TM) interactive accessories, which ran on its debutproduct, the Curitel Identity(TM) handset. Wildseed's criticallyacclaimed technologies provide the industry's richest mobileLinux-based Operating System solution, which includes support for GameBoy(TM) Advanced style games, MP3 and Video playback, remote devicemanagement, and a fully 'skinnable' User Interface for delivering bothbranded and themed user experiences. Many of the components that formWildseed's mobile Linux solution can be sold separately to non-Linuxbased feature phones.

The expanded AOL Wireless division, which encompasses the AOLMobile, Tegic and Wildseed groups, will speed the delivery ofcommunity and convenience to mobile users with an array of softwaresolutions, communications and content services supported by the topwireless carriers and handset manufacturers.
AOL Wireless will be led by Craig Eisler, General Manager & SeniorVice President, AOL Wireless, America Online, Inc. Wildseed employeesand operations will be integrated into AOL's current Seattle officesand Wildseed's CEO Eric Engstrom will become AOL Wireless' Senior VicePresident, Wireless Products.

Wildseed has been recognized by the industry for its unique andcutting-edge technology. Accolades include: 2004 and 2005 ConsumerElectronics Show (CES) Design and Engineering Showcase Award honoree;TechTV's 2003 Best of CES Finalist; Andrew Seybold's Outlook 4Mobility2002 Innovation Award at Comdex.
The Wildseed transaction is AOL's second major corporateacquisition in 2005 - since AOL's purchase of Xdrive, Inc. wasannounced last week. AOL also acquired Mailblocks, Inc. andAdvertising.com in the summer of 2004.
