Amazon.com Inc. (AMZN) was up slightly by 0.27 percent to $337.99. The company's first quarter profit surged from the year-ago quarter and was in line with Street view. Sales increased 23 percent and came above market view. The company guided second quarter sales in line with analysts' estimate.

Starbucks Corp. (SBUX) was up nearly 2 percent to $72.35. The company's second quarter earnings improved from the year-ago quarter and matched analysts' view. Revenues increased 9.1 percent, but missed the consensus estimate. The company forecast full-year 2014 earnings in line with market view.

Decliners:

Visa Inc. (V) declined 4 percent to $200.00. The company's second quarter earnings were higher than in the year-ago quarter and its adjusted earnings per share topped Street view. Operating revenue rose 7 percent, but was below analysts' forecast. Visa now expects fiscal 2014 low double-digit constant revenue growth in the 10-11 percent range, with an expectation of two percentage points of negative foreign currency impact.

Las Vegas Sands Corp. (LVS) was down nearly 1 percent to $78.75. The company's first quarter earnings and revenues were higher than in the year-ago quarter and were above analysts' expectations. Pandora Media, Inc. (P) fell over 5 percent to $26.62. The company's first quarter net loss narrowed from the year-ago quarter. Revenue surged and came above the consensus estimate. The company forecast second quarter adjusted earnings and revenue below market view. At the same time, the company raised its full year 2014 outlook.
