VENEZUELA: Country To Seek Support From Allies To Deal With U.S. Sanctions
(RTTNews) - The Venezuelan government will seek support from allies such as China and Russia to deal with the economic sanctions imposed by the United States, said the Constituent Assembly speaker Delcy Rodriguez during a news conference held Tuesday in Caracas.
"How to overcome the sanctions? By deepening our strategic relationship with Russia, China, India, Iran and other poles," she said.
Delcy Rodríguez also stated that Venezuela intends to take advantage of the sanctions to expand "ties and potentialities" with the international community. She noted that Caracas expects a response to be incorporated into the BRICS bank (a group composed of Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa).
Last Friday, the U.S. President Donald Trump signed a decree imposing a sanctions package on Venezuela that bans negotiations on new government-issued debt and assets from state-owned oil company PDVSA.
At the end of the week, Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro ordered new military exercises in response to Trump's threat of a military intervention in the South American country.
